Hello, I’m Norein Maneetta Mary Mathew, a mental health professional with an MA in Psychology(specialized in clinical Psychology), a PG Diploma in School Counselling, and a BSc in Psychology, where I was a University Rank Holder (7th Rank). For me, mental health care is not about “fixing” people — it is about creating a space where individuals feel emotionally safe enough to be themselves without fear of judgment. I believe many people are not always looking for immediate solutions; sometimes, they simply need someone who can genuinely listen, understand, and sit beside them through difficult emotions. That is the kind of space I strive to create. My work has involved supporting children, adolescents, adults, college students, working professionals, women, and marginalized communities through a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges. I have worked with individuals experiencing trauma, depression, OCD, addiction-related concerns including alcohol dependence, emotional dysregulation, academic stress, bullying, relationship difficulties, burnout, anxiety, and identity-related struggles. I also have experience working with women navigating emotionally difficult life experiences, including divorce, relationship trauma, intimate partner violence, emotional abuse, abandonment, and major life transitions.

I understand how deeply these experiences can affect one’s sense of safety, identity, selfworth, and emotional wellbeing, and I aim to provide a compassionate space where individuals feel supported without shame or blame. Alongside this, I have worked with children and adolescents dealing with bullying, academic pressure, emotional difficulties, family conflict, low self-esteem, behavioral concerns, and stress related to social and developmental changes. My background in school counselling and family-focused approaches allows me to work sensitively with younger individuals and families while creating a safe environment where children and adolescents feel heard rather than dismissed. I also have experience working with the LGBTQ+ community and marginalized populations, and my approach is LGBTQ+ affirmative.

I recognize that experiences of stigma, discrimination, identity struggles, family rejection, and social isolation can significantly impact mental health. I strive to create an affirming and emotionally safe space where individuals can openly express themselves without fear of judgment or having to hide parts of who they are. What deeply shapes my approach is my background in crisis intervention and trauma-informed care. Working with individuals during highly vulnerable moments taught me that healing cannot happen in environments filled with judgment or pressure. Every person carries a unique story, and I believe therapy should honor that story with empathy, patience, and respect. “I believe healing often begins in spaces where people feel safe
enough to be fully themselves, and I am here to offer just that.”

Motivational Interviewing (MI)

I use Motivational Interviewing to help clients explore change in a compassionate, non-pressuring, and supportive way. Rather than forcing advice or confronting resistance, this approach focuses on “rolling with resistance” — understanding ambivalence, meeting clients where they are emotionally, and empowering them to discover their own reasons for growth and change. The goal is to help clients feel heard, supported, and capable of making meaningful decisions at their own pace.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

DBT techniques help individuals understand and regulate intense emotions while building healthier coping mechanisms. I integrate DBT skills to support clients with emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and boundary setting. This approach can help individuals learn how to manage overwhelming emotions, navigate risky or unforeseen situations more safely, maintain healthier relationships, and respond to stress without feeling emotionally consumed by it.

AF-CBT (Alternatives for Families – Cognitive Behaviour Therapy)

AF-CBT is especially helpful for children, adolescents, and families going through emotionally difficult situations, conflict, trauma, behavioral challenges, or communication struggles. This approach focuses on improving emotional understanding, strengthening family relationships, building healthier communication patterns, and creating safer emotional environments within families. It can provide both guidance and practical coping tools during challenging family dynamics.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)

CBT focuses on understanding the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I use CBT techniques to help clients identify disruptive or unhelpful thinking patterns, recognize emotional triggers, and gradually develop healthier ways of thinking and responding. By becoming more aware of recurring patterns, clients can learn practical strategies that make day-to-day life feel more manageable, balanced, and emotionally less overwhelming.
